Life and Career

Hayley Atwell is the only child of Allison, a motivational speaker, and Grant, a massage therapist and shaman. Atwell’s mother is English and her father is an American from Kansas City, Missouri and of part Native-American descent. Atwell has dual citizenship of the UK and the US.Her parents separated when she was two years old.

Atwell took A-levels at the London Oratory School before training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama graduating in 2005, in place of studying philosophy and theology at King’s College London.

Hayley Atwell is one of the UK’s most successful young film actresses, with roles in Brideshead Revisited, The Duchess and 2011 summer blockbuster Captain America.

British actress Hayley Atwell rode to fame on the crest of her role as the female lead in Woody Allen's resonantly English, crime-themed black comedy Cassandra's Dream (2007), then signed for another prestigious assignment -- the lead in Julian Jarrold's period drama Brideshead Revisited (2008),

Studied at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama (2002-2005).
She was a sixth-former at the London Oratory School, West London, and then trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Hayley Atwell has been cast as Peggy Carter opposite Chris Evans in Marvel Studio’s upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger. In the early comics, Peggy Carter fell in love with Captain America while they fought together in the war effort. Of course, the character will be updated for the film. Atwell comes from a theater background in London. She’s been seen in Woody Allen’s Cassandra’s Dream, The Duchess, and the recent update of BBC’s The Prisoner.

The First Avenger will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. Chris Evans will play both Steve Rogers before and after his transformation, though director Joe Johnston wouldn’t state how. I’m sure CGI will be involved in some capacity.

This seems like a wait and see deal. I’m not really as familiar with Captain America beyond that crappy movie that came out in the 90s. I do like Chris Evans and I think he has the right amount of personality to pull it off, but Johnston does not inspire a lot of faith. Who knows?
